Walt Ader

Staretd racing in 1936. Only raced in the Indy 500 once in 1950. He qualified 29th and finished the rain shortened race in 22nd place.

Born in Long Valley, New Jersey, Walt Ader began his career in 1936 in small races until the Second World War put a temporary stop to his career.

After the war in 1946, Walt moved up to the higher category, National Championship AAA, but only competed in one race. In 1947, he ran several races with an Adams-Offenhauser, taking his only victory at Lakewood Speedway, Altlanta. He tried to qualify for the Indy 500 but failed.

In 1948, he tried to qualify for the Indy 500 again. He had two cars at his disposal, Wetteroth and Lencki, but like the previous year failed once again.

He didn't race in 1949, but returned in 1950 when he finally managed to put his Sampson Special Rae Offy on the grid in 29th place for the Indy 500. In a rain affected race, which ultimately stopped it early, Walt finished 22nd, 15 laps behind Parsons. It was his last race in the AAA Championship.

Walt Ader died on November 25, 1982 in Hunterdon, New Jersey, at the age of 68.
