Jeff Allam
Three years racing karts preceded his circuit racing debut in a homebuilt Vauxhall Viva special saloon in 1972.

After three seasons he moved up to a Vauxhall Magnum production racer in which he was runner-up in the 1975 BBC Radio 1 series.

His debut in the RAC British Saloon Car Championship came in 1977, still in a Vauxhall Magnum, and he finished second in class, despite racing against drivers with far more experience than he.

In 1978, he switched to a Ford Capri in the series, finishing second in class after two outright victories, winning a Grovewood Award as one of the most promising young British drivers. It's an accolade rarely bestowed on saloon car drivers.

The following year, 1979, Jeff repeated his '78 efforts - second in class in a Ford Capri.

He was a natural choice when the Rover programme was launched in 1980. Victory at the British Grand Prix round at Brands Hatch was the highlight of the first season.

In 1981, with a further developed car, Jeff finished second in class to team-mate Lovett, having won three rounds of the championship.

There was a nail-biting-end to the 1982 season when Jeff just managed to beat Capri driver Vince Woodman on a tie-breaker to finally win the class outright.

Long distance racing has always fascinated Jeff. He shared a Mazda sports car with Steve Soper and James Weaver the Le Mans classic, the trio taking the difficult car to a second in class, and has driven in no fewer than 6 times in the Spa 24 Hours saloon classic, his best result being 3rd with a Rover Vitesse in the 1983 event.
