Bertrand Fabi
Bertrand Fabi was born in Sherbrooke, Canada. He was a talented driver who would probably have made it all the way to F1 if his life had not been cut so tragically short.

He started racing saloons in 1982 before graduating to F2000 single seaters in 1984. He had a reasonable season topped by winning the CASC Runoffs making him the Canadian F2000 champion.

The following year saw Fabi cross the Atlantic to compete in the  British and European F2000 Championships. He won both and was considered to be the favourite to clinch the 1986 British Formula 3 crown.

In 1986 he signed to drive for West Surrey Racing with Damon Hill. However, tragedy was to strike the team in February when Fabi was killed in a private test session at Goodwood on 21 February 1986. Driving a Ralt RT30 Volkswagen he hit a patch of ice and crashed. Gravely injured he was taken to hospital in Chichester and died the following day.

Would Fabi have won the British F3 title in 1986 and gone on to F1? He had the talent, he had the backing of Raymond David, a wealthy businessman, and had beaten Martin Donnelly to the Euro F2000 Championship in 1985.

When the Shannonville Motorsports Park located in Shannonville, ON, Canada was extended in 1988 one of the sub circuits was named Circuit Fabi after him.
