Phil Kane was a resident of Miami, Florida. He was critically injured while working as a corner flagman at an SCCA Regional race held at the Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach, Florida on July 18 1998. A Corvette crashed into his flag station, killing its driver, John Davis, of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. "PK", as Phil was known to most of his friends, is credited with pushing co-worker Kathy Noda out of harm's way, thus saving her from injuries no worse than heavy bruising. Phil died of complications from a broken pelvis, internal injuries, continuous blood loss, and pneumonia, after being in a coma for more than five weeks.
