The event was held on a 2.2 mile course at the Sebring Airfield. The season championship would be decided as Tony Adamowicz held only a 6 point lead over Sam Posey going into the 13th and final event. Hobbs battled with Mario Andretti and Mark Donohue before going on to take the first 100 mile heat ahead of former F1 regular Trevor Taylor and Gus Hutchison. The title was decided when Posey retired with a broken transmission on lap 13. Just 2 laps later, Adamowicz retired his Eagle. Neither was able to start Heat 2 and Adamowicz clinched the title. In Heat 2, Hobbs took the checkered 2 tenths of a second ahead of Swedish F1/Sports Car veteran Jo Bonnier with Hutchison again 3rd. Hobbs efforts earned him $6,400 and moved him past Posey into 2nd in the final standings. Australia's Tim Schenken won a companion Formula Ford race, edging Bill Scott (Schenken would make his F1 debut just 8 months later).
