Gary Neice, from from Candler, North Carolina, ran Late Models at tracks in North Carolina and Virgina. He also raced occasionally in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series. He was killed after suffering a heart attack during the Carquest 300 at the South Boston Speedway in 1991.

The inaugural NASCAR Busch Grand National Series was run in 1982 and Gary raced in 12 rounds. At the The Mountain Dew 300 on April 3 at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina, finishing 6th. Two weeks later he raced in the Busch 200 at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia, crossing the line in 10th spot. He took 8th at Hickory in the Sunkist 200 and a 7th in the Goody's 200 also at Hickory. His season best finish was in the Bobby Isaac Memorial 200 where he crossed the line in 5th. Despite only running in 12 of the 29 races, Gary came 16th in the final standings. He won the Hickory Motor Speedway track championship that year.

In 1983 he only ran in 5 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series races finishing on the podium in third place in the WDVA 200 at the South Boston Speedway.

He only made sporadic appearances in the Busch series from then on until his final race in 1991 when he suffered a heart attack and crashed his Oldsmobile into the third-turn wall on lap 186 of the Carquest 300, a Busch Series race at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.

A fund-raiser for his widow and infant son was held at the Hickory Motor Speedway.
