Brother of Don & Dale. All three brothers were heavily involved in the IMSA drug-smuggling scandal in the 1980's, which also involved Randy Lanier & John Paul Jr. All bar Dale went to prison, with Don & Bill serving a year's sentence. Bill never raced after prison and concentrated on running the family jet business with Don. All three were sons of Dick Whittington, '50's race car owner. Whittington died in an plane crash near Winslow, Arizona. His friend, Randy Lanier said that Bill was giving a ride to a terminally ill friend who he wanted to give him one last experience of flying again. The Swearingen SA226-T(B) Merlin IIIB, aircraft was completely destroyed when it came down. The accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
