French Racing Driver & Hotelier from Chamonix. Started racing in 1986, mostly in single seaters. Switched to sports cars in the early 1990's.
Michel Ligonnet was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, the son of René Ligonnet who also used to race.
Known primarily as a sports car driver he made his Le Mans debut driving a twin turbo Porsche 993 for the German racing team Freisinger Motorsport in 1995. His partners were the German Wolfgang Kaufmann and the Japanese Yukihiro Hane. They finished 19th in the overall standings at the end of the race.
In addition to his various commitments at Le Mans, where the 17th overall in 1998 and 2001 were his best results, the Frenchman also contested races in the BPR Global GT Series and the FIA GT Championship. His best result was a third place in Monza 1999.
He aslo raced at Sebring in 1997 and 1999 finishing 10th on both occasions.
He managed the Ascari racing facility in Spain for a time before moving on to manage other racing facilities in Spain. He now works as a consultant advising on circuit planning, event organisation and coordination.
