Udo Schütz
German Sports Car Driver. Raced for Porsche, Alfa Romeo and Abath in the 60's Porsche racing manager Rico Steinemann once said of his team driver Udo Schutz that when he switched on the car's ignition he switched off his brain. 1967 he won the ADAC 1000 kms race at Nürburgring in the six-cylinder Porsche 910. Schütz and Buzzetta were first to finish, albeit a mere 0.2 seconds ahead of the number 19 910 driven by Hawkins and Koch. 1969 Won the Targa Florio with Gerhard Mitter Has a big accident at Le Mans in 1969 driving with Gerhard Mitter (Sadly Mitter was killed a week later). Udo Schutz’s 908 erred slightly going through the Mulsanne kink and it touched the Armco. Schutz bailed out at something near 100 mph because what little survived the first impact with the Armco was on fire. Sam Posey who had stopped because of dense fog and a strange pink light, found Schutz wandering around the infield and took him to the marshals.
