Gianfranco Brancatelli
A 1970s Formula Italia and Italian F3 star (runner up in 1975). In 1976 Brancatelli contested the European F3 series winning two races (at Mantorp Park and Vallelunga). His move up to Formula Two with Minardi was an unhappy one and he was to drive for twice in the appallingly slow Kauhsen and then subbed for an injured Arturo Merzario at Monaco, attempting and failing to qualify for three races in total. Subsequently became European (1984) and Italian (1989) Touring Car Champion, as well as racing Sports prototypes for both TWR and Brun for whom he took second-place at Daytona in 1987 paired with with Oscar Larrauri in a Porsche 962S. Moving to Sauber,Brancatelli (along with Baldi and Acheson) finished second at Le Mans in 1989. After a return to Touring Cars and a stab at two-wheeled competition on Ducati in the Italian Superbike championship, Ginfranco successfully raced a Ford Mondeo in the Super Touring Championships in Malaysia and Australia amongst a host of other race activities.
