In 1978 Martin Stretton started active competion in road rallies using a Hillman Imp. Then in 1979 he started to race vintage Frazer Nash cars belonging to friends whom he had been helping with preparation. In 1980 he purchased his own Frazer Nash and raced with success for ten years. He also had limited forays into modern FF1600 in 1982 and 1984 and some production saloons in the mid '80's.

The breakthrough into front line Historic Racing happened in 1991 when he was invited to drive David Duffy's B-Type Connaught at the Silverstone Festival and Mike Haywood's T51 Cooper. With both cars he won first time out. This led to lots more offers resulting in racing in over 60 different cars since then.

Simon Bull's cars have provided the best results, most notably his Maserati 4CM - fastest pre war car, March 712- 1994 Euro Historic F2 Championship and the Derek Gardner designed Tyrells 005 and P34, which won the 1995 and 2000 FIA TGP F1 Championships.

Martin has also won the Monaco Historic Grand Prix three times, 2002, 2004 and 2006.
