Johnny Baldwin
A Native of Fresno, California, John began his midget career in 1946 there, but soon relocated to the San Francisco Bay area. During his driving career with northern Californias Bay Cities Racing Association, John racked up a minimum of 125 BCRA main event wins. In doing so, Baldwin captured an amazing nine BCRA driving titles (a combination of 4 Indoor and 5 Overall Championships) between 1952 and 1961. Oh his way to gaining these titles John was instrumental in winning BCRA Owner Championships for Jess Beene, Stan Brooks and John Pestana. While most of his racing career was spent in midgets, Baldwin had successes in Sprint cars and won over 30 Sprint car main events in northern California races. He also entered the Indy 500 in 1956 in a Ferrari but failed to qualify. During USAC's early years Johnny competed in the National events and won two 100 lap events. He retired from competition in 1966, secure in his knowledge that held represented his sport well.
