Ted 'Teddy' Duncan
Teddy Duncan dominated both the Chicago and St Louis areas throughout most of the 1940s. In 1939 he captured the titles for both Walsh Stadium in St Louis and Raceway Park in Chicago. In 1940 he repeated the feat. Burns from an accident slowed him down a bit in 1941, but he still was able to win the Chicago Riverview track title. The war years from 1942 through 1945 had little effect on his skills as a race driver and he repeated his track championships in both areas in 1946 and 1947. St Louis was still running at Walsh Stadium and Chicago had Soldier Field. Duncan won the Night Before the 500 in 1947. He drove the famous Johnny Pawl #17 at Gilmore Stadium as well as in the Midwest, where he won 100-mile races at Toledo, Ohio and on the Milwaukee and DuQuoin miles. Teddy Duncan died in 1963 from a heart attack.
