David started his racing in 1989 piloting a 911SC in the Porsche Challenge series, before graduating to the BF Goodrich Production Championship in the following year. It was there that he scored his first senior win at Brands Hatch and picked up the "Rookie of the Year" award. Driving a 944S2, he entered the inaugural Porsche Supercup in 1991 and beat a quality field to take the overall crown and win the first of his British titles. He amassed seven victories and took the award for the most pole positions. He narrowly missed retaining his title the following year and had to settle for the runner-up position. David contested limited seasons in the Rover Tomcat Series in 1994 and 1995 before discovering GT racing. He acquired one of the factory Marcos LM600's and went on to share the British GT2 title in 1996. This foray into the GT arena whet his appetite for more international exposure and after a successful test at Sears Point, David entered into an agreement with the Saleen Allen Speedlab team, acquiring one of their SCCA Championship winning Mustangs. In 1997 he contested his first Daytona 24 hour event, which was foiled by engine dramas before finishing 5th at Sebring. He also entered his first Le Mans race but electrical failure sidelined the car. The inclusion in these events necessitated running a limited British season but he still managed to visit the podium at Brands Hatch and Donington. In 1998 David moved back to Porsches running at Le Mans with the German Roock team. Despite a number of dramas the team finished 8th in class in their 911 GT2 and David recorded his first endurance finish. He also acquired one of these cars to run in the Privilege GT Championship and took 3rd at Spa in its first race. In 1999 he took the car to Daytona and again running with Roock, he and the rest of the crew managed to usurp the might of the US factory teams and score victory in the GT class. It was also in this year that he began his acquaintance with the British Lister squad. After a major engine fire at Oulton in his Porsche he was offered a drive in the newly built GT2 Storm for the next round of the British Championship. The car scored its maiden victory at Snetterton and David went on to take the British GT2 title after taking the next 5 wins in a row. He returned to Daytona in 2000 in a Porsche 911 but a promising run was cut short by engine failure. He also contested the British GT Championship again in his Storm but had to settle for the runner-up position, despite 6 victories, after engine failure at Spa. He went on to race in the Suzuka 1000kms with the Lister factory team but they returned from Japan empty handed. In 2001 David again decided to contest the Britsh GT Championship in his Lister Storm. This year he was partnered by the very talented Mike Jordan and the pair collected seven wins on their way to win the Title and the coveted RAC Tourist Trophy. He also ran (unsuccesfully) at Daytona, but managed to improve on his best Le Mans finish by coming 7th in class and 16th overall. For 2002 David once more entered his Lister Storm in the British GT Championship. He was again partnered by Mike Jordan but this year, after winning three times, the pair had to settle for the runners-up position. David did however manage to keep his unbeaten run in a Lister at Donington. From the car's first run in 1999 at British rounds of the Championship, David has emerged victorious in every race to the end of 2002 (9 victories.) He also ran in the Rolex classic at Daytona (a creditable first finish for the Eurotech prepared 911 GT3R), and returned to La Sarthe with PK. Unfortunately the engine expired after 6 hours whilst the car was running third in class. In 2003 David returned to Sebring this time in the PKSport 911GT3R but engine failure brought their race to a premature end. In June he returned to Le Mans and despite various problems managed to better his best class result by coming 6th. He finished off the season in the US running at Laguna Seca, Miami and Atlanta.
