French Formula 3 and Formula 3 racer who made one World Championship appearance in a rented March 701 for the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, finishing 13th.

François Mazet was born in Paris. He raced in French Formula 3 for a couple of years with a Tecno run by Winfield Racing where he showed some promise.

In 1970 he moved up to Formula 2 with Sports Motor International as number two to Tim Schenken driving a Brabham BT30 FVA with little or nothing in the way of success, a fifth place at Pau being his best result.

In 1971 he continued with F2 had a few outing with Siffert Racing Team in a Shell sponsored Chevron B18C when the Swiss star was committed elsewhere. He had a best finish of fourth at Pau. In 1971 he also rented a March 701 for the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard where he finished 13th.

He drove in a few ETC races for Ford Germany and in 1971 he drove one of the ill fated Ford GT70s in the Tour de France driving with Jean Todt (later of Ferrari management fame) crashing out after four laps. In 1972 he drove a Porsche 911s at Le Mans but failed to finish.

Mazet was later involved with David Thieme, the boss of the Monaco based Essex Petroleum company who sponsored of Lotus in the early 1980s.

Now runs the Citronneraie, a lemon farm in Menton on the French Riviera.
