Luigi 'Gigi' Taramazzo was from Bordighera in Italy and started racing in the early 1950's.
In 1955 he was lying fourth overall and first in class in Mille Miglia when he had to retire. In May he finished 8th overall and 2nd in class in the GP Supercortemaggiore at Monza driving with Anselmi. Then in June he finished 6th in the Shell Cup at Imola.
In 1957 Luigi Taramazzo with a Ferrari 250 GT LWB Zagato Berlinetta (0515) which was on loan from Palanga. He took a win at the at the Garessio-San Bernardo Hillclimb at the begining of September and the following weekend, Taramazzo raced it in the XI Coppa Inter-Europa at Monza finishing third. In October of 1957, Taramazzo entered it in both the Trieste-Opicina and Pontedecimo-Giovi Hillclimbs. The car was repainted all white and, in February of
1958, Palanga sold it to Taramazzo. However, Taramazzo didn’t keep it for long, and he re-sold it in April of 1958 to Luciano Ravina, a dealer in Genova.
In the May of 1958 he took delivery of a new Ferrari GT Berlinetta Scaglietti (0911). Normal looking Berlinetta with wind-up windows.
He drove it to victory in the Mille Miglia with Gerini in June. He followed up the win in the Mille Miglia with further vicoties in Garessio San Bernardo, Trento Bondone (1st in the GT Class) and the Monza Coppa Intereuropa. He was second overall and first in class at Pontedecimo-Giovi, second overall in the Monza Coppa San Ambreus and ended the year as the Italian Champion in the over 2.6 litre class.
At the Monaco Grand Prix that year he attempted to qualify Ken Kavanagh's Maserati 250F. The organisers had paid him two million liras to participate as he was a very popular in neighbouring San Remo, and they though that it would help draw in the crowds. Unfortunately he failed to qualify.
The following year, in 1959, he finished 5th in the Monza Coppa San Ambreus before selling the car back to Ferrari and taking delivery of a new Scaglietti Competition Berlinetta with open headlights. With this car he won the Garessio San Bernardo for the second year running. He then finished 9th in the Lottery GP at Monza and returned a DNF in the Mille Miglia when he crashed out.

In 1965 he bought a 1963 250 GTO, and in November finished 2nd OA in the 1st IC Rally Jolly Hotel, Palermo-Trieste. Another second in the Coppa FISA at Monza followed. In April he entered the 1000km at Monza in the Scuderia Sant'Ambroeus 250 LM Drogo long nose with Oddone Sigala finishing 10th. In the Targa Florio again driving Sthe cuderia Sant'Ambroeus 250 LM with Oddone Sigala they finished 8th overall and 1st in class. In June at the Circuito di Mugello they came third.
He entered the Targa Florio in 1966 in the Scuderia Sant Ambroeus Ferrari 250 LM but retired.
Then at Mugello in driving with Giulio Bona in a 1.3 Abarth 1300 OTC they won their class. He then raced the Abarth in the Coppa Citta di Enna in August finishing a dissapointing 11th overall and 6th in class.
For 1967 he entered the World Championship for Sports Cars racing a Porsche 906 with Giulio Bona. They finished 10th (2nd in class) in the 1000 km Monza, failed to finish in the Targa Florio due to a broken driveshaft and also retired from the GP Mugello. This got better in June with a forth overall and second in class in the Coppa Citta di Enna.
In 1968 he drove a Lancia Fulvia HF in the 12hour race at Sebring (USA) with Raffaele Pinto and Claudio Maglioli finishing 11th. They also entered the 1000 km Monza but DNQ.
In 1970 he was back at the Targa Florio with a Scuderia Etna Abarth 2000 Sport with Guiseppe Virgilio finishing 10th OA and 3rd in class. They failed to finish the race in 1971 with the same car and after a 7th in 1972 in an Abarth-Osella SE-021 again driving with Giuseppe Virgilio, Taramazzo retired from racing.
