Tim Fedewa began his racing career while he was still in high school, running on the dirt tracks of his hometown, Holt, Michigan. In his first season, he captured the series championship at Merritt Speedway in Northern Michigan.

As with most in NASCAR, racing is a family affair for the Fedewas.

"My grandfather drove, my dad drove; Gary, my uncle drives; and so does my cousin, Tommy. They've all been really successful -- maybe not on a NASCAR level but on a regional level. Racing is racing, no matter if it's here in NASCAR or on the local tracks," said Fedewa.

He quickly moved to pavement tracks and, by 1991, had already captured two Rookie of the Year titles, one in the ARTGO Challenge Series and one in the ASA.

In 1993, Fedewa began racing in the Busch Series. He finished his rookie campaign with one top-five and four top-10 finishes, en route to a second-place finish in the rookie of the year standings.

Fedewa collected his first win in 1995 at Nazareth Speedway. His second and third wins came three years later at Nazareth and South Boston (Va.). Fedewa recorded a seventh-place finish in point standings that year, with four top-fives and 10 top-10s.

In 1999 Fedewa moved to the Cicci-Welliver organization where he drove the No. 36 Stanley Tools Chevrolet for two years. In May 2000 he got another win at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Fedewa started the 2001 season with Cicci-Welliver, but parted ways with the organization midway through the season. That year, he made 25 starts with two top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes, including a second-place run at Bristol.

After spending some time as Bill Elliott's spotter in the the Cup Series and as Kerry Earnhardt's spotter and driver coach in the Busch Series, Fedewa was actually hired as Earnhardt's replacement in late 2003.
