Danny Milburn

Danny Milburn raced in the United States Auto Club Sprint and Championship Dirt Car Divisions. He joined USAC in 1981 and was voted the 1982 USAC Sprint Car Rookie of the Year. He had two wins in the Sprint Car division but the highlight of his career came during the 1989 Hoosier 100 for Championship Dirt Cars when he led 13 laps and finished 6th.

Danny Milburn was from Indianapolis and raced sprint cars for ten years before joining USAC series in 1981 where he was the rookie of the year in 1982 finishing third in the points. He was fourth in both 1983 and 1984.

He scored his first USAC victory in a Stenger-backed car at Lawrenceburg, Ind., on Sept. 18, 1983; then drove the Smith Speed Shop sprinter out of Eaton to another victory there a year later. Milburn drove for several years for Cissy and Ray Smith.

Milburn never won any of his USAC Silver Crown forty-one starts, although he led several races. His best finish was fifth in the Golden State 100 at Sacramento in 1989.

He was killed during the USAC Silver Crown race at the Copper World Classic held at Phoenix International Raceway on 03 February 1991. The accident happened at first turn during the seventh lap. Mark Alderson was having problems with his car, and though he was going quite fast he was on a lower line that you would expect. Milburn clipped Alderson's left rear and was sent into the barriers. The right side of the sprint car was destroyed and Milburn suffered fatal injuries.

Danny Milburn will always be remembered for his quick smile and friendly wave, he was forty-one and operated a garage door company with his father, he was survived by his wife Linda and children Amy, Betsy, Chad and Brian.
