Started competing in hillclimbs in the early 1920s. Nicknamed Bubi (the kid) by his fellow racers he then raced a number of different cars before retiring in 1929. In 1934 he came out of retirement briefly to act as a reserve driver for the works Auto Union team. He came third at Avus on the debut of the new car and later came second in the Swiss Grand Prix. He retired for good at the end of the year.He raced a Mercedes in 1923, an NSU from 1924-25, a Steyr in 1926, Bugatti in 1927 and 1928 and a Mercedes-Benz SSK in 1929.

Helfrich contested the 1952, 53 and 54 German Grands Prix. He took second at Le Mans in 1952 with Helmut Niedermayr. -

Erwin Bauer 1912 - 1958
Formula One driver for the Veritas team who died in the 1958 ADAC 1000 because he failed to notice the chequered flag and continued at racing pace. Coming across a slower car, his Ferrari slid wide and crashed into trees. -
Ernst-Günther Burggaller 1896 - 1940
Burggaller started racing motorcycles in 1922 but switched to cars in 1928 with a Bugatti T37. He aquired a T35B which he altered to Monoposto specification and fitted a T51 motor. One of the top German drivers he was killed in action early in 1940. -
Willi Krakau 1911 - 1995
A member of the German rowing team at the 1936 Summer Olympics, Krakau became the first German to enter an International event post WWII. With a reputation as a constructor of specials, he entered one World Championship race, the 1952 German Grand Prix. Driving his six-cylinder AFM car, he qualifyied but did not dtart the race.
