The Belgian Grand at Zolder went ahead on the 9th of May 1982 despite the tragic death of Giles Villeneuve in qualifying the previous day.

Ferrari withdrew and thus Pironi was a non starter. In the absence of the Ferraris Jogn Watson took the win for McLaren followed by Keke Rosberg (Williams) and Niki Lauda (McLaren). However the McLaren was found to be underweight after the race and was duly disqualified promoting the Ligier of Eddie Cheever to the final spot on the podium.
