Jean-Claude Andruet was mainly a rally specialist with wins in the Monte-Carlo with an Alpine-Renault A110 1800 (co-driver 'Biche') in 1973 and the San Remo in 1977 to name but a few. He had a total of eight wins in World Rally Championship, one in the European Rally Championship and three in the French Rally Championship
But Jean-Claude Andruet also competed in Endurance racing. He drove a Alpine A210 Renault at Le Mans in 1969 finishing 12th, in 1970 he teamed up with Guy Ligier in a Ligier JS1 Ford. They did not finish going out with distributor problems after 65 laps.
In 1971 he ran a Porsche 910 but crashed out after 27 laps. He had better luck in 1972 driving a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona with Claude Ballot-Léna and François Migault, finishing 5th overall and winning the GT class. He returned with the same car the following year, this time partners by Claude Ballot-Léna, Vic Elford and Bob Wollek. Again he won the GT class and finished 6th overall.
He moved up a class the following year driving a Ferrari 312P with Teodoro Zeccoli and Jean-Francois. They finished 9th.
It was back to Grand Touring class in 1975 with the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona. Partnered by Hughes de Fierlant and Teddy Pilette. 6th in class, 12th overall.
In 1976 he drove a Group 5 Porsche Carrera RS with Thierry Sabine and Philippe Dagoreau.
He mised Le Mans in 1977 but won Spa 24 Hrs in a BMW 530i with E.Joosen.
Back at Le Mans in 1978 he failed to finish in a Ferrari 512 BB entered by Pozzi Thompson JMS Racing. Going out after 251 laps with engine failure. Another failure for the same team followed in 79 and 1980.
Luck returned in 1981 with a class win (5th overall) driving the Ferrari 512 BB/LM with Claude Ballot-Léna for Charles Pozzi.
This was followed by a DNF the next year and again the following year in the Martini Racing Lancia LC2/83 with Alessandro Nannini and Paolo Barilla.
He did not race the following year and returned in 1985 in the WM P83B Peugeot with Roger Dorchy, Claude Haldi and Patrick Gaillard. They went out in an accident on lap 73.
He practiced the Spice SE88C for the Chamberlain Engineering entry in 1988 but didn't race.
In 1989 he was back behing the wheel of a Cougar C20LM Porsche with Philippe Farjon and Syunji Kasuya. they finished 14th.
