Marcel Albers was a very promising F3 driver, not related to Christian, who was tragically killed at Thruxton in 1992.
Marcel Albers was a very promising Dutch Formula 3 driver. He was being tipped to win the British F3 Championship in 1992 but he died when he crashed during the round at Thruxton. The 25 year-old was given emergency treatment but did not survive.
Earlier in the race he had spun off at Church and was coming back up though the field. He was right behind his team-mate Elton Julian as they approached the chicance but missjudged his braking and rode up over the back of Julian's car. The car flew up and an inverted in mid air, landing upside down in the tyrewall before then flipping into the catch fencing.
Three spectators including a small child, were treated for minor injuries and the race was abandoned, the win being awarded to Gil de Ferran.
