Moderatley successful in junior formulae and F3000, in 1990 he drove for EuroBrun in F1 failing to pre-qualify for all 14 of the Grands Prix they entered.
In 1978 he was Italian 125cc karting champion subsequently moving up to European F3.
In 1982, he drove a Dallara 382 Alfa Romeo and an Anson SA3C Toyota. He scored 10 points to finish 8th= with John Nielsen. For 1983 he continued in the European F3 Championship in an Anson SA4 with an Alfa engine. With 11 points, he finished 9th overall.
Langes moved to Eddie Jordan Racing in 1984 before switching to Barron Racing with a Ralt RT3 Toyota. A 3rd at Donington, 2nd places at the Osterreichring, Monza and Enna, plus a win at Knutsdorp saw Langes score 36 points, and finish 4th overall behind Gerhard Berger, Johnny Dumfries and Ivan Capelli, the eventual Champion.
In 1985, he moved up to the fledgling Formula 3000 series with Barron Racing in an ex-F1 Tyrrell 012 Cosworth. But after two poor performances at Silverstone and Thruxton he quit, returning to F3 in the Italian championship. He did make a one-off appearance with Eddie Jordan Racing at the Curacao F3000 Grand Prix driving a March 85B Cosworth, where, starting 5th, he finished 3rd.
For 1986, he was back full time in F3000 with a BS Automotive Lola T86/50 Cosworth, however after finishing 9th at Mugello, he sat it out until round 7 at Enna, when he returned with a 5th place finish. He scored a 6th at Le Mans Bugatti, failed to score at the Osterreichring, Birmingham and Jarama and ended up 17th= with Richard Dallest.
In 1987, he made a disastrous switch to a March 87B Cosworth run by the FIRST team. Langes failed to qualify at Donington, crashed at Brands Hatch and Jarama and had gearbox failure at Enna. He managed 10th place at Birmingham and, without scoring a point all season, was unplaced.
In 1988 Langes moved to GA Motorsport with a Lola T88/50 Cosworth. He crashed at Brands Hatch and Birmingham but came 5th at Monza followed by a 4th at Enna, leaving him 15th= with Volker Weidler in the Championship.
For 1989 he moved to Forti driving a Lola T89/50 Cosworth. He finished 12th at Silverstone and retired at Vallelunga and Pau. His season then improved somewhat with a 7th at Jerez and a fine 2nd at Enna behind Andrea Chiesa after Martin Donnelly took Jean Alesi out. He came 6th at Brands Hatch, then tangled with Thomas Danielsson in Birmingham. He tangled with Donnelly at Spa before finishing 9th at Le Mans Bugatti and 7th at Dijon. He finished the season in 12th overall.
He also had a sports car outing driving an Alba AR9 Buick engine for the DeBlasi Racing team in a 360km race in Tampa, America. He retired with electrical problems.
In 1990 he got the budget together to enter F1 with EuroBrun. The omens were not good, they had failed to qualify for any race in 1989. The team were in turmoil and to make matters worse, they had decided to run two cars instead of just the one they ran in 1989.
Langes failed to qualify in all 14 GPs, the cash-strapped EuroBrun team closed and his F1 career was over and, as they say, he faded from the scene.
