Di Grassi finished runner-up to Timo Glock in the 2007 GP2 Series season, he is currently the Renault Formula One team's test driver.
<font face="Tahoma">From São Paulo, Brazil, Lucas Tucci Di Grassi is a racing driver who's career started in 1997 in karting, winning the Bandeirante Championship and the São Paulo Countryside Championship that year. In 2000 he finished 5th in the Formula A World Championship.
He switched to cars in 2002 competing in Brazilian Formula Renault. He finished as runner-up in the series before graduating to South American Formula 3 the following year.
Driving a Dallara F301 Mugen-Honda for Avallone Motorsport he finished as the championship runner-up, with one win and eleven other podium finishes. This came despite missing the last six races after suffering a major crash at the Curitiba round.
He also travelled to Europe to make four race starts in the F3 Euroseries with Prema Powerteam, achieving a best finish of fourth place.
For 2004 he made the move to Europe entering the British F3 Championship with Hitech Racing. He scored two wins to finish eigth in the series.
He also finished on the podium on his début at the Macau Grand Prix. He started his relationship with Renault that year becoming part of the Renault F1 Team Driver Development program.
In 2005, Di Grassi joined Manor Motorsport in European Formula Three. Against the dominant ASM pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Sutil he could only manage one win but ended the year third in the championship.
He had his first taste of F1 with a test at Jerez in Alonso’s car and, at the end of the season, Di Grassi returned to Macau, this time with Manor, and won the event from third on the grid, although runaway F3 Euroseries champions Hamilton missed the race.
Di Grassi entered GP2 but had a dissapointing season in 2006 with Team Durango, scoring just 8 points to finish 17th in the final standings.
For 2007 he switched to driving for ART Grand Prix and scored points consistently throughout the season, failing to score only once in the first 13 races. Despite not winning a race in that time, it put him in contention for the championship along with iSport's Timo Glock.
He scored his first win of the year in the 14th round of the championship at Istanbul, and took the lead of the championship, but Glock retook the lead when he won the sprint race at the same event.
In 2008, He has been test driver for Renault F1. However, he has also now resumed his GP2 career by securing a drive at Campos Racing from round 4 onwards. Di Grassi is currently third in the drivers' standings despite having competed in fewer races than the majority of his competitors. With three second places and one fourth place finish, he was the highest-scoring driver over the first two race meetings in which he took part.
