Roxie grew up a few blocks away from the front straight of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and her dream was to be the woman to win the 500. She met the Unsers and Mario Andretti when she used to sneak out of school to go to the track and became lifelong friends with them.

She started racing when she was 12 in Quarter Midgets before moving up to Formula Ford and Super V in the United States. She did travel to England to race in FF1600 and took part in one F3 race in 1984 driving a pink Ralt RT3.

In 1988 she quit racing, having realised that she was not going to achieve her ambition and turned to aviation, becoming a commercial pilot, type-rated (Captain Qualified) on both Sabre Jets and Lear Jets. She retired when husband Larry Strish, a long-time CART crew member with Newman-Haas, died in July 1995.

She did corporate tours of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
