1911 In a 50 mile race at the New York State Fairgrounds, the right front tire of Lee Oldfield's Knox burst in the first turn after the main grandstands. He crashed through a fence into a crowded spectator enclosure. Six people were killed outright, three died on the way to hospital and two more died in hospital the next day.
