Not because he was especially talented – although he did appear to be half-sharp – but because he had a Lotus Seven. And by all accounts, a particularly tatty one.

Webb Jay born on this day in 1870 - died in 1952, 68 years ago, he was 82.

Raced a White Steamer nicknamed Whistling Billy which achieved speeds in excess of 74 mph. Retired to Florida on the proceeds of an invention.
