Ludwig Fischer raced mainly in German Formula 2 during the 1950s and early 1960s,. He also competed in hillclimbing and Formula Junior.

Ludwig Fischer was born in Straubing in German and started racing when he bought one of Alex von Falkenhausen's F2 cars with a 1949 type spaceframe chassis by Hahn and bodywork by Huber.

He raced it in the West German Championship in 1951. Scoring a 5th in the first round at the Riemer Flugplatz before posting a DNF at the Nürburgring. He finished the season 6th in the West German F2 Championship.

His single Formula One entry was the 1952 German Grand Prix with his privately-run AFM BMW, but he did not start the race despite all 32 entrants (Fischer was 31st fastest) being considered as having qualified.

In 1953 he was a no show at the XVII Internationales ADAC-Eifelrennen at the Nürburgring still running the AFM.

In 1957 he raced in the non championship Grand Prix of Opatjia in a RS Porsche finishing 2nd and he campaigned the same car the folowing year with limited success scoring a 5th at the Grand Prix of Napoli, a 4th in the Grand Prix of Opatija, a 2nd Baden Rock and an 8th at the Grand Prix of Austria at Zeltweg on the 17th August 1958.

He raced in the 1960 Monza Grand Touring Grand Prix finishing third in class and 10th overall in a Fiat-Abarth 750.

In 1964 he entered the Hill Climb at Rossfeld a round of the World Sportscar Championship in a Mercedes-Benz 230SL. He qualified with a time of 4:21,930 (the quickest practice time was set by Edgar Barth in an Elva Mk.7 Porsche at 3:10,470)but put in a DNS.
