Born in Holland, raised in South Africa, Gunnars'dream to be a race driver has been fulfilled. As a young boy to adulthood, Gunnar has always been known as a"gearhead", tinkering on anything with an engine. Go-carting was the start of his racing passion. With many wins in the divisionals and nationals, Gunnar moved on to faster engines.
With his love of cars. EFCsystems inc. was born now 12 years ago. The company is the chief sponsor to van der Steur Racing.
After two years of racing his Lola in the American Le Mans series, Gunnar is one to watch as an up and coming star.
Gunnar van der Steur has purchased a Radical SR9 that will compete in the American Le Mans Series' LMP2 class later this year.
van der Steur will use the Radical P2 chassis with the familiar AER turbo engine - the car making its ALMS debut at Petit Le Mans before the final race of the year at Laguna Seca.
Until then, the team will continue to campaign its Lola in select ALMS events.
"In looking at everything, Radical presented us with the best offer and best package," van der Steur said. "The final decision came two or three weeks ago. I saw everything I needed to see and knew then that's what we wanted to go with. The tub itself and the crash test data were very impressive. It had every safety margin there and more. That's what sealed it.
