Raced in the Indy 500 three times finishing 6th in 1948. His best AAA finish was a third at Milwaukee in 1939.

His real name was actually spelt Lewis. He raced in AAA between 1939 and 1948.

His best finish was a third at Milwaukee in 1939 and a 6th at Indy in the 1946 race driving an Alfa Romeo 8C 308 powered by a three-litre, supercharged engine. In 1948 he couldn't qualify the Miller V-16. Though the engine was smooth and powerful it was too heavy for the chassis.
