Alfonso Thiele
5/4/1922 - 15/7/1986
Record updated 07-Jan-10
With the exception of his single-seater drive in the 1960 Italian GP, Thiele was exclusively a sports car pilot, and a pretty good one at that.
He spent most of the late fifties campaigning the little Fiat Abarth (taking a 750 cc class win in the 1957 Mille Miglia), before graduating to a more potent proposition with the Ferrari 250GT, winning his class at the 1959 Monza GT meeting with this car.
In the early sixties he was a works driver for both the Fiat Abarth and Alfa Romeo teams. With the latter he took a fine fourth place in the 1964 Targa Florio, just behind team-mate Businello.
