Willie raced in Formula Ford 1600 from 1974 to 1981 before switching to saloon cars.
Willie started racing in Formula Ford 1600 in 1974 with a March chassis. Following a big crash later that year his career was halted. However the following year with the car repaired he continued and scored Championship points and several top ten placings.
In 1976 following the purchase of the latest Van Diemen chassis wins started to happen in major Championship races around the UK. In 1978 he changed chassis to a Royal and continued his now regular winning ways, and an opportunity came to compete in the European Formula Drivers Association race series in Europe. This brought Willie to some of the Premier race Circuits in Europe that year including Zolder for the first time. The Circuit very different to today’s and at that time still on the F1 circus. Although Willie was to crash out of the Zolder race. The next race was the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife, and at his very first visit qualified 7th and would go on the finish 4th and record a new lap record, which remained in tact until the circuit was changed to accommodate the new F1 GP circuit. The final race meeting in Central Europe for Willie was at Zanvoort, and was going well in qualifying managing a creditable 4th. However it was not a good weekend as one of Hollands Famous Drivers was killed that weekend driving a Camaro and unfortunately also killing a Doctor and two Marshalls. The meeting was abandoned. But the experience fuelled Willies interest and desire to compete on the international arena.
In 1981 dispite winning the prestigious award of Britain’s Best Young and Up Coming Race Driver, awarded by the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC), Willie was forced into retirement due to financial pressures.
The following year he married Sheila. Willie has two children Kate 15 and Joe 12. Racing interests were rekindled with the inaugural involvement by VW of there new VW Polo G40 Championship. Which Willie entered under the guise of Moore International Motorsport. In 1994 he was runner up in the Championship, and Champion the following year after winning 11 of the sixteen races with lap records at four of the circuits visited. Willie and the Team graduated and purchased there first BMW M3 in 1996 and stared competing at the Nurburgring in the VLN endurance series racking up Class and Group victories on a regular basis, and Willie very soon became known as a Nurburgring specialist. The Team first competed in the Belcar series in 1997 with an entry in the Zolder 24hrs race. The car failed to finish that year due to engine failure, but the mould was set and from that first involvement in the Belcar family the Team has strengthened and continues to enjoy the competition that the Belcar Championship provides. In 2002 Willie finished first in Class in the 24hrs of Zolder and in 2003 finished 2nd in Class TA despite only losing to the mighty V8 BMW of Belin Motorsport.
