Jimmy Thompson

Jimmy raced all over the south in the 1950's and early 60's racing mostly modified coupes. He also raced in "grand national" races. In the 1960's, Jimmy experienced failing health and suffered a fatal heart attack on September 26th 1964.

Jimmy Thompson was from Monroe, NC. and was the brother of another NASCAR racer named "Speedy" Thompson and son on another NASCAR diver, Bruce Thompson. At one time they all raced together.

Jimmy raced all over the south in the 1950's and early 60's making a name for himself in his own right. Jimmy raced mostly the modified coupes but was a part time "grand national" racer too. He was a frequent competitor at Rambi Raceway in Myrtle Beach. He was the 1958 track champion. His biggest win at Rambi came in 1960 when he won the annual Dixie 66 race.

While still a young man in the early 1960's, Jimmy was experiencing failing health and suffered a fatal heart attack on September 26th.
