Rodney Nuckey

500cc Formula 3 driver who moved up to Formula 2 in 1953. Entered the German Grand Prix in 1954 finishing 11th.

Rodney Nuckey was born in Wood Green, London, his family ran the Warrior Tap and Die company in South Mimms. He started racing in 500cc Formula 3 with a Cooper-Norton during in 1952. He took wins at Falkenberg and Skarpnack in Sweden, and suitably encouraged, purchased a Formula 2 Cooper-Bristol for the 1953 F2 season. He turned out to be pretty good, taking third in the Syracuse GP, fourth in the London Trophy at Crystal Palace. He won the Snetterton Coronation Trophy and took another victory at Tampere in Finland. He also privately entered the Cooper-Bristol in the German GP that year finishing 11th.

He continued to campaign the car in 1954 in Formula Libre events as well as driving the Ecurie Richmond F3 Cooper.

In 1954 he won the Libre race in Helsinki and came second in the Snetterton WECC Trophy loosing his shirt, literally in the process. His shirt caught in the wind and he crossed the line naked for the waist up. Though he was second he was actually three laps down on Peter Collins. He was entered for the British but turned the car over to Brandon to race.

He later retired to live in Australia. He died in 2000 in Manila, Philippines.
